“Northern Peru Extension”

Morning departure to the high end of the Huaylas Callejón, between the Black and White Range. On the way, you will make a stop in Recuay, a lovely typical village in the valley. You will then go up to the White Range near the Nevado Pastoruri. You will make some stops along the way to explore the “Puya Raimondi”, some enormous cacti growing at high altitudes, as well as sources of naturally fizzy water. The vehicle will then take you to an altitude of almost 4700 meters. You will walk up to a viewpoint located at an altitude of 5000 meters, where you will have a splendid view across the Nevado Pastoruri and its glacier. You will then be driven back down to the valley and will be back in Huaraz by the end of the day.

Morning departure through the « callejón de Huaylas », a valley which separates the Black Range from the White Range. You will make several stops in some of the main villages in the valley, such as Carhuaz. The route offers several superb viewpoints across the Nevado Huascarán, the highest summit in Peru (6778 meters), and the Nevado Huandoy. You will then make your way up into the White Range and will cross the Huascarán park in order to reach the Llanganuco lagoon: a northern gem with its turquoise waters overlooked by stunning mountain views.

After lunch in Caraz (not included), your next stop will be the Yungay village, which was buried under a mudslide back in 1970. Return to Huaraz at the end of the day. Transfer to the bus station to take a first-class night bus over to Trujillo.

Arrival in Trujillo in the early morning, then transfer to the « Conquistadores » hotel, where a room will be waiting for you. After breakfast, your next stop will be the main archeological sites of the Moche and Chimu civilisations: the Huaca de la Luna and Huaca del Sol, pyramids formed by several platforms which were built with hundreds of millions of adobes (earth bricks dried in the sun) and embellished with murals of multicolored low-relief soil, and the Chan Chan ruins, an immense site also built with mud bricks. Free afternoon in the pleasant colonial city of Trujillo.

Early-morning departure by bus for a 3-hour ride through the coastal desert. Arrival in Chiclayo, where a guide will be waiting for you to visit the Túcume pyramid complex, and the royal tombs of Señor de Sipán in Lambayeque. The discovery of the Señor de Sipán tomb and its goldsmithery treasures is considered the most important in the last 50 years in Peru.

Afternoon airport transfer to catch your flight to Lima. Transfer and night at the Britania hotel.

Optional: morning departure by private vehicle with your guide for a guided tour of the Huaca Rujada (archeological complex where the Señor de Sipán tomb was discovered).
