“Cusco and Machu Picchu” Escapade

Itinerary: Lima – Cusco – Sacred Valley of the Incas – Machu Picchu – Lima.

This tour will take you to the cradle of the Inca civilization: the city of Cusco, ancient capital of its empire, the Sacred Valley which is home to the Inca cities of Pisac and Ollantaytambo! And to top it all off, the lost city of the Incas, Machu Picchu.

What’s the plan?

Day 1: LIMA
Arrival at Lima airport. Transfer to the Britania hotel in the Miraflores district. Night at the hotel.

If your international flight arrives in the morning, it is of course possible to organize a guided city tour of Lima, or a transfer to Cusco on the first day of the tour.

Day 2: LIMA - CUSCO
Morning transfer to the Lima airport, and flight to Cusco. Hotel transfer and check-in at the San Agustin Internacional hotel in the historical center. In the afternoon, you will visit the city of Cusco, which was once the capital of the Inca Empire and remains without a doubt one of the most fascinating cities in Peru and in all of South America. Your visit will start with the Sacsayhuaman fortress, perhaps the most impressive Inca construction, which overlooks Cusco. You will then walk down the narrow streets of San Blas, where you will see on the way down some ancient walls from the Inca era, including the famous 12-angle-stone. You will walk through the whole historical center until you reach the San Pedro Market, the ideal place to soak up the Andean atmosphere.

Night at the hotel.

It is possible to replace this walking tour by a traditional visit of the Inca ruins (Sacsayhuaman, Kenko, Puka Pukara et Tambomachay) and of Koricancha, with vehicle transportation.

Day 3: CUSCO - PISAC - MORAY - MARAS – OLLANTAYTAMBO
Your tour continues with the discovery of the Sacred Valley of the Incas. You will visit Pisac first, with its vast artisan market and especially its immense Inca city which overlooks the valley, the Moray circus, which the Incas built for agricultural purposes, the Maras salt mines, which are still harvested to this day using artisan methods, and the Ollantaytambo village with its Inca fortress, nestled on an rocky spur.

Day 4: OLLANTAYTAMBO - MACHU PICCHU - CUSCO
Early-morning train ride along the Urubamba river over to Aguas Calientes, a village located at the foot of Machu Picchu, from where you’ll be able to access the Machu Picchu site by bus. It is certainly one of the highlights of tourism around South America and the climax of any Peruvian tour. The Inca city, forgotten during centuries, leaves no traveler indifferent, fascinating tourists with its mystery as well as its beauty. You will explore this extraordinary site throughout the morning, and will travel back to Cusco by train in the afternoon.

Day 5: CUSCO
This last day of your tour in Peru will allow to enjoy Cusco’s charm at your own pace, exploring this unique city which boast a mix of colonial and Inca architecture, and which offers many different activities and things to see.

Day 6: CUSCO - LIMA - RETURN

Airport transfer to Cusco airport, and flight to Lima. End of the tour.
