What to pack?

Bolivia being a country with a very diverse climate, you will have to pack clothing for the cold part of the Andes, as well as for the warm weather if you go to the Amazon, to Santa Cruz or Tarija.

For the treks, make sure to pack appropriate equipment and clothing:

  • Hiking shoes
  • Anti-blister band-aids
  • Thick socks
  • Windbreaker
  • Flashlight
  • Small backpack (around 10L) for your personal items

Finally, do not forget sun protection, which will be indispensable at such a high altitude: sun screen (SPF 40), lip balm with a high SPF, and sunglasses.

It will be possible to rent sleeping bags at the beginning of each trek which includes an overnight stay in a tent. If you wish to bring your own, it needs to resist cold temperatures down to 32 ºF.

However, be careful not to overpack. Domestic flights within Bolivia allow a maximum of 40 pounds per person.

Finally, some general tips based on our experience:

Every now and again it can happen that some luggage gets left behind when you take your international flight. Therefore, don’t forget to pack a change of clothes in your hand luggage, just in case.

You should also be sure to make photocopies of your important documents: passport, insurance forms… anything which could be useful if you were to lose your documents.

Also, it is essential that you keep your immigration card, which will be given to you upon arrival in Bolivia. It will be requested when you leave the country, and when you check into hotels. We also recommend that you make a photocopy of this card. We will also make a copy, as we will need it to benefit from VAT exemption on your tour.

Power Outlets

The electric system in Bolivia works on 220 volts. Some electric sockets work with flat plugs, others with round plugs, and others will work with both. In most cases, there are no grounded sockets.
