Local expenses
Our trips generally include all transport, accommodation, guided tours and excursions. Your on-site expenses will mostly consist of meals (apart from certain excursions where these are included) and souvenirs.
Eating in Bolivia is relatively cheap. At some of the informal restaurants, you will be able to have your meals for the equivalent of a few dollars. In a good restaurant, a meal will cost around 7 to 10 dollars.
In terms of souvenirs, the artisan handicraft trade is very varied and colorful in Bolivia. Though there are some distinctive products depending on the region (for example the Tarabuco weavings, near Sucre, and the salt crafts in Uyuni), on the whole, you will find more or less the same crafts anywhere in the country. We would therefore recommend you do your shopping at the end of the trip, and maybe even that you plan a day/half-day to this end. Prices can often vary from one place to the next, but usually remain very affordable. On the markets, the custom is to haggle the prices. Travelers can easily ask for at least a 20% discount (if not more) on the requested price.
It is very easy to get around the cities during your free time, as there are a multitude of taxi companies to choose from in every city. The taxis work without a meter, you will have to ask the driver for the price of the journey before getting in. Fierce competition means prices always remain very low, costing at most a few dollars per journey. An airport transfer to the center of La Paz using an authorized company should cost around 6-7 dollars.
