Transport and communication

Telephone and internet

If you wish to use your cellphone in Peru, please ask your provider at home before departing. Locally, there is good, reliable signal in the cities, but it is still lacking in some parts of the countryside and along the highways. In the cities, call centers (“locutorio”) are very common. Some people even sell phone calls in the street, from their own cellphones. The country code is 51.

Internet is available almost everywhere. Most hotels we work with have a computer which guests can use, and almost always offer WiFi in the bedrooms, at no extra cost. Internet booths are also very common in most cities, at a ridiculously low cost.

Transport

By air: a good alternative if you don’t have much time to complete your tour. Flights from Lima stop in most Peruvian cities. There are also some flights between other cities, the main ones being the following: Arequipa-Cusco, Arequipa-Juliaca, Juliaca-Cusco and Cusco-Puerto Maldonado. However, the cities of Nasca and Ica are not served.

By bus: at Paprika Tours, we use the best bus companies in the country, where all precautions are taken to avoid accidents and muggings. You’ll also be able to enjoy a surprising level of comfort in these buses, with large, cozy seats which can be reclined down to 160º, and onboard service.

Private vehicles: if you are in a small group, you can be driven through the beautiful landscapes of Peru in a private vehicle. All our vehicles are modern, comfortable and adapted to the size of your group. Our chauffers are professionals, and know their journeys perfectly. This is a perfect way to discover the country at your own pace, requesting stops whenever you’d like.

By train: the train system is not very developed yet in Peru, and train lines are used exclusively for tourists, which explains the higher cost of tickets. There are only 3 lines, Lima-La Oroya-Huancayo, the second highest in the world but very seldomly used (2 trips per month), Cusco-Puno (every other day) and Cusco-Ollantaytambo-Aguas Calientes, which is the only way to access Machu Picchu, and is therefore the most frequented train line in the country.
